Unconfirmed images of Halo 4 retail discs have surfaced on websites Reddit and NeoGAF, and some individuals do appear to be playing the game.

Microsoft has commented on the suspected leak, telling Joystiq, “We have seen the reports of ‘Halo 4‘ content being propped on the Web and are working closely with our security teams and law enforcement to address the situation.”

The company said that the discs appear to be legitimate, and said the second disc contains Halo 4’s multiplayer modes.

Some outlets suggest that while the leak is early, it may have come from a journalist reviewing the game, or from PR, who may have received promotional retail copies. However, in Gameplanet’s experience, games for review received by the press this early are always “debug” code, meaning they can only be played on non-retail debug consoles – the reason for doing so is to avoid exactly the situation outlined here.
