The release of Pikmin 3 in Japan has given the Wii U a decent sales boost.

According to sales figures provided by Gematsu, Pikmin 3 debuted at the top of the charts, selling 92,720 copies in its first week.

This gave the Wii U one of its best weeks in a long time, with 22,199 units sold. That's double its numbers from the week before, and the first time the console has cracked 10,000 sold in a week since the beginning of May.

The Wii U’s install base is likely curbing Pikmin 3’s numbers though – 3DS exclusives Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Tomodachi Collection sold 600,000 and 400,000 respectively in their first week on the market.

Pikmin 3 is out locally on July 27 exclusively on Wii U.
