Sony’s Executive Deputy President, Kaz Hirai, has denied rumours that a successor to the PlayStation 3 will be revealed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo this year.
In a roundtable discussion with journalists at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Hirai confirmed that Sony would adhere to its original vision for a 10-year lifecycle for the PlayStation 3.
The journalist asked Hirai to confirm or deny earlier comments made by head of the Sony PlayStation division, Andrew House, who stated that no new hardware would be announced.
“Andy [House] is absolutely right in that we are not making any announcements at E3," Hirai replied. “I've always said a 10-year life cycle for PS3, and there is no reason to go away from that.”
Microsoft has been similarly quiet about any successor to the Xbox 360.
