It looks like when Hello Games' head Sean Murray said the chances of two players meeting in No Man's Sky was "pretty much zero", he meant it.
Two players, TheSadCactus and Psytokat attempted to meet up on the same planet, but when they got to the same spot, neither could see the other.
The meetup occurred after TheSadCactus noticed he'd landed on a planet discovered by Psytokat, after which the two messaged and coordinated a rendezvous.
Both players streamed their progress on Twitch.
"We are 100 per cent In the same station same spot and everything and we cannot see each other," said TheSadCactus (reporting to reddit under the name TheGalacticCactus)
As of the time of this post, the two players are still experimenting with different locations in the game, but are yet to see each other.
The procedural space exploration title boasts more than 18 billion billion (18 to the power of 18) planets, making Murray's previous statements feel justified.
However it would seem that TheSadCactus and Psytokat have proven the chances are now less than zero, meaning players can rule out close encounters of the third kind completely – at least for the time being.
