The universe of No Man's Sky has become (for a brief time) One Man's Sky after one eager customer got his hands on an early copy of the game.
eBay user 'Daymeeuhn' spent a cool US$1250 (plus $52.95 shipping) in order to get in more than a week before the game's official release on August 10.
"My best gaming experiences have been when I've received games before street date, knowing I was truly on my own in the universe of that game, and no matter how tempted I might be to ask a friend for help or check a website for a tip or cheat, I CAN'T because it doesn't exist," said Daymeeuhn in on Reddit.
"If NMS is crack for everyone here in this reddit, the idea of an early experience with zero information surrounding it is the equivalent of the purest, uncut and unfiltered crack money can buy for me."
Daymeeuhn confirmed the purchase was real in an unboxing posted to Daily Motion.
Those clamouring for more footage led Daymeeuhn to upload additional videos, including a 24 minute stream, which he prefaced with, "Sean Murray, if you're watching, I'm an asshole, I'm sorry."
Sean Murray, the head of No Man's Sky developer Hello Games took to Twitter to appeal to those not to watch the videos.
Take a break from reading about it, and picking vids apart. You can experience for yourself so soon.— Sean Murray (@NoMansSky) July 29, 2016
Daymeeuhn then took to Reddit again in order to post an apology and explain why he would be removing the videos.
"There are more spoilers than you probably realize with this game. I'm only a couple hours in, barely touched a few planets and already I've had many FUCK YEAH moments. In the one hand, I'd love to share those with you - but in the other hand, Sean is right... why not just wait and experience them first hand? I dunno.
"But that's it from me video-wise. HG and Sean don't like it, it's giving me a headache dealing with the fallout, I don't want to be the guy that spoiled all this cool shit, and I'm just leaving it at that! I hope you like those first videos! But for now, I'm going to just play the game, keep to myself and enjoy it."
