Anticipated universe-exploration game No Man’s Sky will not require a paid PlayStation Plus subscription to play online, Sony has confirmed.
In a statement to GameInformer Australia, Sony stated that players “will need to connected to the internet for your discoveries to register with the universal atlas,” but will not require a paid account.
Many PlayStation 4 games require a PlayStation Plus subscription to access online features or multiplayer gameplay.
The game's "universal atlas" is a feature wherein players can leave their mark permanently on the expansive procedurally-generated universe.
Players will theoretically be able to encounter one another in No Man’s Sky, but studio Hello Games says the universe is so huge that the chances of direct player interaction are slim.
No Man’s Sky launches August 9th on PlayStation 4 and August 12th on PC.
