Despite a trademark abandonment, The Last Guardian is still in development, Sony has said.
A small panic erupted online this morning when it was discovered that the tech giant had allowed its US trademark on the title “The Last Guardian” to lapse.
The US patent office considers a trademark abandoned when a company does not use it after a certain period of time.
Team Ico’s adventure-platformer was due to be released last year, but its status was called into question after delays, and lead designer Fumito Ueda left Sony in December.
However, it appears that work on the game is still underway.
“We can confirm that The Last Guardian is still in development, and [Sony] will be publishing the title,” said SCEA’s director of product publicity Ron Eagle.
