A email leaked from Arkane Studios confirms that Prey 2 is in development at its Austin branch.
“Doing a new IP was not a possibility because it’s adding risk to the challenge of growth, so after going back and forth with Todd, Harvey, and Ricardo, we decided that Prey 2 presented an interesting opportunity if we could reboot it," the email reads.
“[Bethesda owner] ZeniMax accepted our pitch which was ‘the spiritual successor to System Shock 3’.”
When news of the email leak broke, Colantonio emailed all studio employees urging them not to talk to the media about the game. That email was also leaked.
Prey developer Human Head said that Prey 2 was underway before the original game released in 2006, and in 2011 Bethesda officially announced that it would publish the sequel.
However, since then there have been reports of conflict between Human Head and Bethesda, as well as rumours that all progress on the game had been scrapped, and that the project had been cancelled.
Recently, Bethesda and Arkane have remained tight-lipped about the game.
