First-person survival-horror title Outlast will be available on Steam on September 5, developer Red Barrels has announced.
Outlast was created by a team of developers whose credits include work on the Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, and Uncharted franchises.
The player character is a freelance journalist investigating a recently re-opened insane asylum run by a shadowy trans-national corporation.
“Acting on a tip from an inside source, independent journalist Miles Upshur breaks into the facility, and what he discovers walks a terrifying line between science and religion, nature and something else entirely,” said Red Barrels.
“Once inside, his only hope of escape lies with the terrible truth at the heart of Mount Massive.”
The PC version of Outlast will cost US$19.99.
A PlayStation 4 version is due late next year.
