The remastered release of Doom 3 is to include support for head-mounted displays.

Due sometime in spring, Doom 3 BFG Edition will also support 3D TVs and monitors, allowing players to experience the game with more depth than ever before.

The graphically-upscaled BFG Edition will also feature an new seven-level section called “The Lost Mission”.

This time around, players will the have the ability to shine their torch and shoot at the same time due to a chest-mounted light source – a feature controversially absent from the game’s original version which was quickly added in by the modding community.

The addition of head-mounted display support isn't a huge surprise – id Software Technical director John Carmack has been working heavily with head-mounted technology this year, even going so far as to construct his own prototype, which boasts a resolution of 640 x 800 for each eye and a 90 degree viewing angle.

Several companies are rumoured to be developing their own head-mounted displays, with Sony confirming that it is looking to release a 3D head-mounted display later this year.
