After a number of leaks regarding loot boxes and microtransactions for the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, an Infinity Ward dev has come out to set the record straight.

Joel Emslie, the game's art director took to Reddit in order to put these rumours to bed.

"Sigh. There continues to be misinformed and incorrect info being pushed about Modern Warfare," Emslie wrote. "What I can say right now is that we are definitely NOT working on any kind of supply drop or loot box system."

Emslie also noted that functional items would be unlocked through gameplay, and that info would be released later this week.

Previous Call of Duty titles have included loot boxes under the name "supply drops." Their inclusion in Modern Warfare was already hinted at in the beta with post-match UI indicating at unlocked "Common Supply Drops" in the full release.

Call of Duty fans have already been up in arms about the latest installation after the game's Spec Ops Survival mode was revealed to be a year-long exclusive on PlayStation 4.

The future of loot boxes in Modern Warfare will hopefully be detailed later this week.
