While it's likely Dave Bautista won't be in the Gears of War movie, that hasn't stopped the WWE star from appearing elsewhere in the franchise.

Announced on Twitter today, his wrestling persona Batista will be available as a playable character in Gears 5 multiplayer between September 15 and October 28 in conjunction with the WWE Clash of Champions event.

"Dave has long been passionate about joining the Gears franchise, and we’re thrilled to be working in partnership with him to bring his signature WWE style to the game," said developer The Coalition.

"The iconic attitude of WWE’s Batista will be incorporated into Gears 5 as a multiplayer skin, allowing both Gears and wrestling fans alike to jump into the action as Batista across all multiplayer modes including Horde, Versus and Escape."

The actor – best known for his role as Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy – has noted that he recorded more than 700 lines of dialogue for the game.

Gears of War 5 releases next week on Xbox One, although those that pre-order the Ultimate Edition will get three days of early access.
