Development of New Line's upcoming Mortal Kombat movie is well under way. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the casting of two more key characters from the prolific fighting series.

Jessica McNamee, who recently starred in The Meg is reportedly in final negotiations to play Sonya Blade. Australian actor Josh Lawson, best known for his run on House of Lies has signed a deal to play Kano.

Lewis Tan, who most recently starred in Wu Assassins and Deadpool 2 is in the final stages of signing on to play an undisclosed role. With Joe Taslim already being cast as Sub Zero, Tan could potentially be playing series favourite Scorpion.

Provided all of the deals go through, McNamee, Tan and Lawson will join Thor: Ragnarok's Tadanobu Asano in the role of Raiden, Black Mirror's Ludi Lin as Liu Kang and Supergirl's Mehcad Brooks playing Jax.

The Mortal Kombat movie is scheduled to begin shooting later this year with an expected theatrical release date of March 5, 2021.
