Nintendo's Pokemon-centred Direct aired this morning, unveiling the eighth generation of games for the series.

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield will release this Autumn for the Switch, making it the first mainline Pokemon RPG for the console.

Let's Go Eevee and Let's Go Pikachu released last year as remasters of Pokemon Yellow, with integrated features from the mobile game, Pokemon Go.

Sword and Shield use the same 3D modelling and art design as the Let's Go titles, which is a welcome step up from the visuals of the 3DS era of games.

The upcoming Pokemon titles will be set in a new region called Galar, which seems to take inspiration from Britain.

The total number of new pokemon is yet to be announced, however the three new starters were introduced – Grookey (Grass type), Scorbunny (Fire type), and Sobble (Water type).

While they're all adorably cute, there's something about the awkward looking Sobble that's going to make him my pick when the game releases.
