There were a few big announcements at last week's Game Awards, but one announcement, in particular, seemed to come out of left field. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order was announced and surprisingly will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch in 2019.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 was originally released all the way back in 2009 and fans (and myself included) have been hungry for more ever since.
Check out the details from Marvel below:
"In this new storyline, heroes and villains unite in a race across the Marvel Universe to find the Infinity Stones before Thanos, and The Black Order use them to unleash cosmic chaos. From Avengers Tower to the X-Mansion and beyond, every stop on the dangerous quest to thwart Thanos results in unexpected collisions of fan-favourite characters and iconic locations. Get closer to the action by shifting the view to an over-the-shoulder “Heroic Camera” perspective—a series first that offers a more immersive way to play single-player or multiplayer on up to four systems. Play online, offline via local wireless, or simply pass a Joy-Con controller to a friend, so they can join your team. With another pair of Joy-Con™ controllers (sold separately), four players can team up on one system! The drop-in/drop-out co-op possibilities let players create their own “Ultimate Alliance” at will".
As if that news wasn't exciting enough for Marvel fans, the proverbial cherry on top is the fact that action game veterans Ninja Theory, the prolific studio behind the stunning Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and the DmC: Devil May Cry reboot from 2013 are handling development responsibilities for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. This should lead to some solid gameplay and slick animation, as we've come to expect from the studio. I'll be keeping my eyes on this one in the new year.
