Popular racing franchise V-Rally will return in 2018 after a 15 year absence.

V-Rally 4 will launch this September on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

It is in development at French WRC studio Kylotonn Racing Games, which last year released three fairly middling racing games in WRC 7, FlatOut 4: Total Insanity, and TT Isle of Man.

The studio's goal is to remain faithful to the identity of the franchise, and to strike a perfect balance between sensation, presentation, and simulation, while offering the best graphics and gameplay the latest technology can support.

V-Rally 4 will feature more than 50 vehicles that players can upgrade and customise, including the Porsche 911 Safari, the Ford Mustang, and the Ford Fiesta RS RX.

Expect Rally, Extreme-Khana, V-Rally Cross, Buggy, and Hillclimb challenges, as well as online and career modes.

"It's a real privilege for me to once again work on the V-Rally series," said Game Director at Kylotonn game director Alain Jarniou.

"It's an extraordinary title that I have a very special connection to. I had a chance to join the team that created V-Rally to develop V-Rally 3 on the PlayStation 2 as a programmer. I'm very proud to be working on the franchise again 15 years later."

V-Rally was first released in 1997 on PlayStation 1, where it was a massive critical and commercial success.
