Another studio has thrown its hat into the ever-diminishing ring of the battle royale genre.

This time it is Vostok Games, the studio formed by veterans of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developer GSC Game World.

Its battle royale title is a first-person affair called Fear The Wolves, and it is coming to PC and consoles this year.

Given the history of Vostok, it's hardly surprising that Fear The Wolves is set in the oppressive post-apocalyptic landscape of a radiation-ravaged Chernobyl.

You can play as part of a squad or as a lone wolf as you battle to be the last man or squad standing out of 100.

However, other players aren't the only threat: mutated creatures, deadly anomalies, dynamic weather, and a day/night cycle will force you to adapt your strategies, and you can find protective gear that allows you to explore dangerous off-limit zones.

Focus Home Interactive is set to publish the game.

Vostok Games was formed in 2012 when STALKER 2 was cancelled and developer GSC was scattered to the radiation-poisoned winds. Vostok is also currently working on a free-to-play online FPS called Survarium, which is currently getting somewhat savaged in Early Access.

Following the insane success of PUBG and Fortnite, a number of studios have leapt into the battle royale genre. That means that soon we will see battle royale modes for Hi-Rez's fantasy MOBA Paladins, Techland's zombie slaughterfest Dying Light, and perhaps even Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2, among others.
