According to critics, Sony has got 2017 off to a good start with Gravity Rush 2.
The first-party PS4 exclusive about semi-controlled falling in various directions currently sits at 79 on OpenCritic.
Gravity Rush 2 follows gravity-breaking protagonist Kat as a new danger emerges to threaten the fabric of the universe itself. Still searching for clues behind the mystery of her origin, and with the powerful Raven at her side, Kat must master three unique gravity attack styles as she takes on enemies and massive bosses.
It features more lively, colourful, and destructible environments that its predecessor; and a map that's 2.5 times bigger.
◆ "Gravity Rush 2’s personality and unique, physics-bending gameplay make it so unlike any other open-world game that it gets my whole-hearted recommendation, despite a few faults," writes Ars Technica's Steven Strom.
◆ "Franchise fans will get a kick out of the continuation of Kat’s story – if they understand it – but those with a love of action or experiences like Jet Set Radio will also enjoy this different take on a beat ‘em up," writes Stevivor's Steve Wright.
◆ "Gravity Rush seemed like an oddity on Vita, but then, the entire Vita was an oddity, wasn't it? On the radio friendly unit shifter that is the PS4, however, Gravity Rush 2 still seems wonderfully unlikely and out of place. What a strange delight," writes Eurogamer's Christian Donlan.
◆ "I’d still heartily recommend it despite the criticisms I’ve raised. There’s something unassumingly likable about it, reminiscent of Sega’s wackier years when they’d make any weird thing and toss it on the Dreamcast," Jim Sterling writes.
Gravity Rush 2 is out January 18, and you can pre-order it right now from Mighty Ape.
If you're still on the fence, you can try the game's PlayStation Store demo for free.
