EA’s digital revenue streams will be making more than traditional retail sales in a few years, EA COO Peter Moore says.
“There will come a point, whether it is two or three years from now, when we say ‘We are doing more in digital media now than we are in physical media’, and it’s clearly not far away,” said Moore.
Much of this revenue would come via social mobile and free-to-play games, he said.
EA made US$1.3 billion (AU$1.24 billion) in digital revenue in the last 12 months.
It also reported a 55% increase in digital revenue for the first quarter of this year.
The company expected to make US$1.7 billion (AU$1.62 billion) through digital channels and US$2.6 billion (AU$2.47 billion) in physical sales over the next financial year.
Despite this swing towards digital, Moore stated that EA would not abandon physical games while there was a market for them.
