Square Enix has officially announced that its reboot of FFXIV is now titled Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.
Previously referred to as “version 2.0”, A Realm Reborn is a completely new build of 2010’s Final Fantasy MMO.
It features both a new world and new storyline, the latter of which centres around the concept of rebirth.
“Since announcing our plans for the future of the title last October, we have been working tirelessly to include all of the elements that we have promised in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn,” said Square Enix.
“This new title not only becomes a symbol of a completely new Final Fantasy XIV, but also marks the beginning of a new stage as the latest title in the Final Fantasy series.”
New features include a new graphics engine, new server and data structures, a revamped interface, redesigned maps, more gameplay variations and content.
“I hope you’re looking forward to it!” said producer/director Naoki Yoshida.
The game is expected later this year or in early 2013, and like its predecessor will be available on Windows PC and PlayStation 3.
