A Borderlands 2 exploit on the Xbox 360 is costing innocent players their save files but a fix is on the way, Gearbox has announced.
Save files may be deleted if a player who is using an exploit to unlock an incomplete hardcore mode joins the game.
A patch has been submitted to Microsoft for approval and will be released as soon as possible, said Gearbox.
In the interim, it advised players to close their games to strangers.
“Concerned Xbox 360 players of Borderlands 2 should consider playing online with trusted individuals in non-public sessions,” said Gearbox.
“We also advise that before ceasing play, users always select ‘Save and Quit’ from within the pause menu while their character is alive.
“If after the death of their character players find themselves at the main menu of Borderlands 2 instead of respawning in-game, be sure to immediately select ‘Continue’ to resume playing as that character.”
The PC and PlayStation 3 versions are not affected.
