Live-action webseries Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn has its Master Chief and protagonist.

Daniel Cudmore, who played Colossus in X-Men: Last Stand and Felix in the Twilight series of films will co-star as Halo’s beloved, helmeted, personality-free Master Chief.

Meanwhile, relatively unknown Aussie Tom Green (Home and Away, Dance Academy) will play the as-yet unnamed lead protagonist.

Forward Unto Dawn is a Halo prequel whose plot revolves around the first invasion by the Covenant.

Its five episodes will be shown exclusively on three channels – Machinima.com, the official Halo 4 website, and YouTube – before 15 minutes of extra footage is added and the end product is released as a feature film.

“We want this piece to do all the things that a game, by virtue of being a game, can’t,” said producer Lydia Antonini.

“When you have real people, you can have real stakes and make connections.”

Director Stewart Hendler (Sorority Row) couldn’t resist using the g-word when describing his vision.

“I wanted to bring a sense of reality and gravity to the world. Everything from the performances to the aesthetics should be tethered to a sense of authenticity and grittiness.”

343 franchise development director Frank O’Connor hoped the movie would extend Halo’s fan base even further.

“One of the things we’re trying to do is reach new audiences,” he said.

“If Mom watches, she’ll completely understand it.”
