Sony Pictures Television is creating a 10 episode adaptation of the comic book series Powers by Michael Bendis, claims The Wall Street Journal.
Powers is a police procedural in which a detective and his partner investigate crimes involving people with super powers.
The show has been in production at FX (Justified, Sons of Anarchy, Archer) for some time, reports Deadline.
At launch, the series will only be available to US audiences. It will be available to stream over the PlayStation Network all at once, a "broadcasting" formula recently made popular by Netflix and its Machiavellian political series, House of Cards.
In July 2013, Sony's Andrew House confirmed that the company was developing original programming for the PlayStation Network.
“With 110 million PlayStation Network accounts worldwide, that’s a substantial business opportunity for Sony Pictures to reach a different audience.
“Work is [already] under way to develop original TV-style programming content, which could be made available with some form of exclusivity to people on the PSN – essentially using PSN as a distribution network – particularly for members of PlayStation Plus.”
