Resistance: Burning Skies developer Nihilistic Software has announced it is shifting away from console titles in favour of mobile, downloadable, and online game development.

No layoffs are planned, although the studio’s name will change to nStigate Games.

“Everyone knows retail sales are down, publishers are hurting, independent developers are suffering, blah blah blah,” said the studio formerly known as Nihilistic.

“We thank all the people who have worked here over the last 14 years. It’s been a privilege and a joy to serve our players for the past years. We love what we do, and we love it when you guys like it. Thank you for playing.”

Founded in 1998, Nihilistic debuted with Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption two years later.

The studio has been a rare third-party developer for the Vita, releasing Burning Skies and working on the upcoming Black Ops: Declassified for Sony's handheld.
