Core members of the team who created Nintendo 64 hit Banjo-Tooie! have taken to Twitter to gauge the public’s appetite for a “spiritual sequel”.

Three of the old Rare team are on board, including series composer Grant Kirkhope, who also scored Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, among others.

“Let's make the spiritual successor to Banjo-Tooie! Core members of the original team are ready to go. All we need is your support. So join us today!” read an entry on the new Twitter account.

“I think a few of the old team would love to have another go - it's paying for it which we need to work out.”

The game would feature the kind of humour, easter eggs, and silly characters found in the Banjo franchise, but in the end would be its own product, said the developers.

“It wouldn't be to try and recreate Banjo. It would be something new.”

It has been suggested that the Unity engine would be perfect for the envisaged game.
