Revolution Software has committed to producing a sequel to 1994’s classic cyberpunk point-and-click adventure Beneath a Steel Sky.

The game’s development originally hinged on a million dollars being raised on the Kickstarter for Broken Sword: The Serpent’s Curse, but although that game was easily funded, the Steel Sky stretch goal was not met.

However, Revolution co-founder Tony Warriner told Develop that the success of its crowdfunding campaign inspired his team to begin work on Beneath a Steel Sky 2 anyway.

"We're delighted by the recent level of interest in a sequel to Beneath a Steel Sky and are currently discussing design ideas for this project which we plan to go into development following the release of Broken Sword - The Serpent's Curse.

“We're deeply touched that our Steel Sky fans are as enthusiastic today as they were when the original game released in 1994."

Beneath a Steel Sky 2 will be developed for iOS, Android, PC, Linux, and OSX, with Revolution also considering a console release.

The studio’s Kickstarter campaign for Broken Sword: The Serpent’s Curse raised US$771,561 from 14,032 backers, easily passing its US$400,000 goal. An additional US$50,000 or so was donated via Paypal.
