Two Saw screenwriters have been signed up to rewrite the script for Sony’s God of War film.

Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, who penned four of the Saw movies as well as upcoming Guillermo del Toro-directed alien invasion flick Pacific Rim, hope to reinvigorate the project, which has languished since its announcement back in 2005.

Road to Perdition screenplay scribe David Self wrote the initial draft, and is executive producing the project.

There is no word on when the film is expected to be released.

God of War: Ascension, however, is due out in 2013 on PlayStation 3.
