281 employees of GAME Australia have been made redundant today, and more job losses will follow, reports trade publication MCV Pacific.

GAME Australia entered administration last week. 264 of those made redundant today worked in GAME stores, and 17 worked at GAME’s corporate offices, says MCV.

The publication also cites an unnamed source who claims there will be more “big moves to come early to mid next week.”

GAME is being administered by PriceWaterhouseCoopers. “This is a difficult time for employees and closing the stores was not a decision we made easily,” said PwC’s Kate Warwick. “However it is not financially viable to continue to operate at this level at this time.”

“PwC has been in touch with the Federal Government Department that deals with General Employee Entitlements and Redundancy Scheme (GEERS) and will assist the employees with their applications.”
