Resident Evil VII has critics cacking pants

Resident Evil VII is a triumphant return to form for the aging series, critics say. Maybe that candle is a good idea after all.

The horror title is currently sitting at a rating of 88 on OpenCritic, based on 36 reviews that came in overnight.

By contrast, the highest Metacritic score for Resident Evil 6 is 69 on PC (and in this writer's opinion, that is far too high).

Some pullquotes:

"A must-buy for horror gaming fans, HDR TV owners, and PSVR owners" – Ars Technica's Sam Machkovech.

The latest King of the Iron Fist Tournament is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on June 2, Bandai Namco has announced.

Aussies light up World of Tanks Asia-Pacific week 2

Aussies light up World of Tanks Asia-Pacific week 2

Australia's Team Efficiency is off to a great start in World of Tanks' Asia-Pacific Season II, going undefeated in three games over the weekend.

Team Efficiency (TE) wasn't scheduled to play when Season II kicked off last week, but showed no signs of rust over the weekend as it rolled fellow Aussies The Coalition Zoo 5–2, second seed B-Gaming 5–1, and third seed Meltdown 5–1.

In one of the best plays of the weekend, TE closed out B-Gaming in the final round of the match despite at one stage being down three tanks to six.

The wins rocket TE to third place overall, behind Season I champion EL Gaming (China) and surging Taiwan-based team Horsemen.

Australia's other top eight team, The Coalition Zoo, halted a four game losing streak and grabbed its first win of the season, taking out Korean team DarkWolves in an intense match that went all the way to a tie-breaker. The dramatic win puts The Coalition Zoo in sixth place.

The Division film recruits Oscar winner to direct

Academy Award winner Stephen Gaghan has signed on to write and direct the cinema adaptation of Ubisoft's online shooter The Division.

"I'm excited to work with Ubisoft Motion Pictures [...] to bring The Division to the big screen," Gaghan told Variety. "They’re great guys, exceptionally creative, and willing to take risks."

On The Division itself, Gaghan called the game "an enormous success, in large part due to the visual landscape they created, their vision of a mid-apocalyptic Manhattan. It's immersive, wonderfully strange, and yet familiar, filled with possibilities."

"We all feel the story Ubisoft created is more relevant than ever," he concluded.

Gaghan won his Oscar for writing Traffic, before going on to direct acclaimed political thriller Syriana and last year's Golden Globe-nominated adventure drama Gold.
